BIOGRAPHY
The Treedome, a Latinx jazz-tinged indie quartet from Los Angeles formed in early 2023, just released their debut album The Comfort in Being Sad. The ten tracks of the self-funded project were recorded in 10 days at New York’s legendary studio The Diamond Mine. The band worked with producer, mixer, and engineer Lucas Carpenter.
The band won KCRW’s Young Creators Project, a contest aimed at Southern California residents under 21, in May 2023. This happened just a few months after becoming an official band in a last-minute entry of their song “The Beauty of It.” A brand new recording of the track is featured on the album.
Members Gabi Hernandez (vocalist, they/them), Cristopher Perez-Lopez (bassist, he/him), and cousins Melvin Zulca (guitarist, he/him), and Brian Sulca (drummer, he/him) are of Ecuadorian, Guatemalan, Salvadoran, and Mexican descent. These friends all share the same confidence and don’t hold on to the traditional ideology of their households. Their families expect them to go to college, and to work, but they are here to show that they’re more than that. Gabi, Cristopher, Melvin, and Brian are here to make music and are working to make their music careers a reality.
